Research On The Decision-making Of Asphalt Pavement Preventive Maintenance Treatments

Pavement maintenance is the key link along the whole road maintenance process.As a kind of brand new concept and technology, preventive maintenance has gained acceptance and application in our country. It is significant to change the situation of passive maintenance which has a long history; it is also meaningful to keep good pavement performance.The definition of the road asphalt pavement preventive maintenance is that it is the planned strategy of cost-effective treatments to an existing roadway system and its appurtenances that preserves the system, retards future deterioration, and maintains or improves the functional condition of the system (without substantially increasing structural capacity). This paper sets off from the definition and makes the key problems of the PPM as the breakthtrough points to carry out:Firstly, the theoratical foundation of the preventive maintenance has been summerised from two aspacts: engineering and economics. It helps to make preparation to solve one of the key problems of the preventive maintenance——choose the suitable pavement.Secondly, The PPM treatments which are used frequently have been classified and summerised. The methods for choosing the best PPM treatments have been summerised together too. And the advantages and the weaknesses have also been introduced. It helps to wide the research thinking of the decision-making of the PPM treatments. Grey system theorey has been introduced to this paper. Gray connection analytical method and Vector projection method have also synthetically applied to establish a decision-making model of preventive maintenance treatments which is based on the multi-objective gray connection projection method.At last, the basic theory of grey system and the basic principle of Gray connection analytical method have been introduced. The combination point of the Gray connection analytical method and the decision-making of PPM treatments has been analyzed and summerised. The computational method of the decision-making model of gray connection projection method has been introduced in detail. In this paper, gray connection projection method has been put into practice in a certain highway asphalt pavement in Shanghai and the best PPM treatment has been obtained through this method. In a word, it offers a new idea and an attempt to use Gray connection projection methods to choose the preventive maintenance treatments. It also has some practical significance to be the guildence of the application of the preventive maintenance of our country.
