Analysis Of Urban Valve And Research On Its Urban Design Control Methods

At the border between two regions in an urban, urban valve is used to compartmentalize the interior and exterior space of the urban, and it could also control the intercommunion interface between regions. Urban valve plays an important role in the dimensional structure of urban space, urban landscape and ecosystem, which has multifunction of communication, intercommunion, increasing the exercisable of an urban and embodying the regionally culture of an urban. How to build a scientific, rational system of urban design control to urban valve, and on this base, to implement urban design control effectively, control and lead urban valve to construct a high quality environment? All those are the springboard and objective of this research. It will try to explore and build an effective method of urban design control to urban valve by incubating the connotation and meaning of urban valve, so as to ameliorate the dimensional environment of urban valve and construct a well-feature appearance of the urban. This research could be divided into three main parts.The first part is incubating the concept of urban valve and making research on its basic theory. Main content is: defining and limiting connotation and functions of urban valve, differentiating and analyzing similarities and differences among urban nodes, urban marks and other correlative concepts, dipping up the headstream which urban valve born of and develop, analyzing inscapes and basic attribute of urban valve, demonstrating the meaning of cognizing urban valve, applying the method of administrative levels and typology to do a general and in-depth expounding to the basic types and characters of urban valve, and raising actual problems on domestic urban valve planning, designing and building.The second part refers to researching control method of urban design, main content is: defining and limiting the study category of urban design control, discussing the aim and principia of urban design control of urban valve, establishing the content and program of urban design control for urban valve, building systems of urban design controlling method of urban valve from 3 different lays—magnificent, middle and microcosmic by summing and deduction, and also discussing methods of policy control to urban valve , the productions and expression form of urban design control.The third part is the research of applied case, which refers to urban design controlling methods of urban valve. Putting the urban design controlling methods of urban valve which raised in this study into the practice of characteristic planning of the new developing area in Wu Han, controlling and leading the planning, designing, building and management of the new developing area's urban valve, so as to make it to be the feature window of the new developing area in Wu Han and substantiate the practical maneuverability of this research.
