Research On The Application Of Design Guidelines In The Urban Renewal

This is a research on the application of design guidelines in the urban renewal.The purpose was to find out a way to draw up a system of design guidelines whichshould be more adaptable for the urban renewal of China. It applied reference for theurban designers and architects when designing for urban renewal. This research alsoaimed to make an addition to the current system of design guidelines, and let it moreeffective in the design of space construction in old cites.Based on gathering, collating and analyzing amounts of relevant information, thispaper introduced the main research theories of design guidelines as well as severalcases of application practice at home and abroad. As a conclusion, an integral systemof design guidelines should at least involve the following points:1) target system,which should be the program of the guidelines,2) basis of preparation, point out themain value,3) guidance content, the objects,4) implementation strategy, theassurance for implement. This paper tried to improve the existed method offormulating design guidelines to let it more fitting for the designing of urban renewal,especially in the aspects of land using, conservation of historic districts, etc.In the last part of the paper, a practice in Fudong, the old town of Hengshui city,Hebei province was introduced as an example to introduce how the design guidelineswork in urban renewal, including the site analyses, elements selecting, result charts ofa renewing unit, and the implementation strategy.
