Abstract/Summary:
The city can be built by the natural congregation of people, or by the planned urban development. These twos kinds of origins exist both in Chinese cities and European cities, but they are presented in different ways. In China, though certain cities begin their urbanization thanks to their geographic conditions, but there existed, since a long time, the rules for the construction of cities. These rules are based on public disposition and social grading. That is to say, the fabrication of cities is a regnant behaves for making the order of urban space. Otherwise, In Europe, most cities is a result of the necessity of efficiency. Normally, the dominating class is not the government, but the religion. The axes of the cities are defined by geographic character or religionary buildings. Until the 19th century, emerged the tram planning of new classical style. It is different from the ancient Chinese tram. The former is homogeneous showing an expect for democracy, and the later is classified showing the rules and the rights.The different comprehensions of cities between China and Europe can be seen in the form of traditional blocs, the manner of their interior constructions and their relationship with the city space. The traditional blocs in China is closed and autonomic, and in Europe they are opened and linear. During the modernization and the urban industrialization, both in China and in Europe emerged the residential blocs in great scale. But the differences can also be seen by their character of open or closed. And more recently, in nowadays' economic society, the European planning is backing to the form of traditional bloc. And the Chinese cities change the tradition rule of "LiFang" to "gated communities". In the city, these blocs of different styles and scales cross and superpose, and have different interfaces and connections.
