The lack of resource on the land has been gradually serious. Human being has begun transferring their view to the ocean for its abundant resource. Therefore, the ocean exploitation has turned into the new competition focus between the inshore countries. As a new kind of underwater tool, underwater vehicle has been used widely in the ocean exploitation and resource reconnaissance. Along with the fast development of the ocean exploitation, the requirement of a large underwater vehicle, which can perform more complicated missions with its long voyage and large inspection scope, is more urgent. The object of the thesis is to design an underwater vehicle that can meet the requirements mentioned above. The vehicle will be competent for many underwater tasks, such as underwater terrain exploitation, inspection of the offshore pipeline, obtainment of data for the ocean environment, etc.The underwater vehicle's voyage is about 500 kilometers, and its maximal diving depth is 1000 meters. In accord with the established tasks, designing an excellent hull line style and a secure load-supporting frame should be a very important task. On the basis of the subsection design spirit of Granville, and also with some consideration of the hull space, we have finally designed a hull fulfilling the requirements. Besides these, a fluid performance analysis of the vehicle with its hydrofoils has also been accomplished. In order to enhance the reliability of the compressive system, a finite element analysis for the cylindrical shell with annular ribs has been completed. After these, with the secondary development tools APDL and UIDL, a static analysis system has been developed, which can provide a good calculation flat for the other compressive cylindrical shells with different size in the future. At last, an analysis of intensity and rigidity for the load-supporting frame has been made, mainly in the mother-ship fixation and two points suspended work conditions, just to provide some references for the vehicle's structure design.
