Anti-rolling tank (ART) is a typical anti-rolling device, the flow of water in the tank depends on the energy of ship roll motion, the moment of the water reduces the amplitude of ship roll. The ART has the feathers of simple structure , low cost and little energy consumption. It specially has well stabilization effect in zero speed and low speed. The controlled passive ART has the functions of open ice and reduces the heel of the ship. The ART is widely used in the research and exploration vessel, RORO ship or cargo ship and so on.The paper is based on the item "the anti-rolling tank test" setup among the school 211 key construction projects. Simulation and analysis of passive tank are mainly investigated, configuration of U-shaped passive tank is optimized, and the control system of controlled passive tank is designed on hardware and software.Firstly, the stabilization principle of passive tank and controlled passive tank are discussed in this paper, then design special type of tank according to different ships, test the effect of the stabilization on special ship, validate the feasibility of the design method and discusses the stabilization effect on the real ship. Secondly, build up the mathematical models which are needed in this paper, including the models of ocean wave motion, "ship-passive tank" system and "ship-controlled passive tank" system. According to these mathematical models, carry through the simulation and analysis, which include simulation of frequency domain and time domain (regular wave and irregular wave). Then the simulation of stabilization effect on changing the state of the sea, the course of ship and the speed of ship or structure of the ART are done. On the basic of the simulation above, aim at a certain ship, the research is conducted to find the best combination of configuration parameter, dispose height and damping coefficient in order to satisfy the best requirement of stability of ship, using Simulink Response Optimization tool. Then some simple simulation analysis of controlled passive ART is done. The ART control systems of foreign ships are compared and their experiences are summed up. At last, choose PAC controller to design the control system of controlled passive ART including its hardware and software.
