The Research On The External Space Of The Traditional Communities

With the speed of 5%-10% per year, the update or expansion of the residence in our nation would have a revolutionary impact on cities and the society. However, the gated residence problem which is very common in constructing new residence, has a great negative effect on city and residence itself. Under this situation, a new pattern, called "Open Block" arises, which is against the obturation of the residence, This pattern derives the open feature from the traditional residence. It emphasis the high quality of the external space, the harmonization of neighborhood and the strong atmosphere of living. From that point of view above, the research of the paper is based on the investigation of a traditional residence, YongFeng Residence at Hankou District.From our investigation into the activities in its outdoor space, we find some merits which is inherited from the traditional resident pattern. We hope that the research in the paper would provide some evidence for the pattern of "Open Block" in about the modern residence.During the investigation and analysis of the external space in YongFeng community, the sorting and noting of the persons'activities, to find the trigger factors of the activities; At the same time, to understand the denizen's satisfaction of the external space through the questionnaires, to serve the feasibility of the pattern of"Open Block"on reality.
