In the 21st century, the conflicts between the human development and the environment are increasingly deepened, so that people of insight not only pay attention to the development of material civilization, but also pay more and more attention to harmonious and sustainable development with the environment while developing material civilization of mankind. With its unique perspective and nature-respecting attitude, traditional Fengshui theory has brought quite a lot of inspirations to the modern ecological theory and landscape planning practice. This article tries to start with Fengshui theory's own theoretical structure, the process of its establishment and development into a system as well as its own scientific meanings, adopts the method of case study, by analyzing a lot of cases in detail, to prove the Fengshui theory has a lot of embodiment in China's ancient gardens. It means the Fengshui theory has been infiltrated into the garden building theories and practices, and created quite profound impacts to various garden design elements. Furthermore, it uses the method of comparative analysis to compare the traditional Fengshui theory with modern ecological theory and landscape ecology theory. It not only finds out the ecological meaning of Fengshui theory, but also gets the conclusion that the traditional Fengshui theory still has the advantages of being pragmatic and forward-looking compared with modern ecological theory. Then it extends Fengshui theory to modern garden design and gets the conclusion that due to cultural heritage, Fengshui theory has caused visible and invisible influences to China's modern garden design concept, meanwhile in practice and operation, Fengshui theory should be instructive to the rational thinking, emotional thinking and imaginal thinking of garden design. Meanwhile it objectively analyses the reason and the limitation of Fengshui theory, and prudently indicates that: if Fengshui theory will be put into practice of modern garden landscape design, its superstitious contents should be eliminated. Meanwhile it tries to establish a scientific method for practice, and combine modern science and technology with Fengshui theory to make up for the weak technical system of Fengshui. As long as we can discard the dross and retain the essential, and discard the false and retain the truth in Fengshui theory, and in combination with modern science and based on a practical attitude, it will surely keep on delivering considerable effects in modern garden landscape design, and play the role it deserves, thus realizing its own value in the process of continuous seeking for harmonious coexistence of mankind and environment in the future.
