Recent years along with the rapid development of the national economy and the fully promoted athletics, our country every locality consumedly to the central developments in sports facilities especially sports center fever. However, China is undergoing rapid development of urbanization and urban modernization; the sports centers constructed in this period should be able to form good interaction with the development of the city and environment, adapt to the constantly changing social demand and exploit its service efficiency and economic benefit etc, which is closely related to the general planning of the sports centers.This text regards general planning of the large and medium-sized sports centers in China as lesson, make an investigation from site selection and general layout respectively, point out the construction of the large and medium-sized sports centers in current is not well with the urban growth and greatly development, the unfavorable site selection and improper general planning two respect primal problems are existed.Target the existed problems, base on the theoretical analysis, the sports center general planning optimization strategy to answer is put forward from macroscopic, medium and microcosmic points of view individually. Macroscopically, brings forward the ideology of regional sports facilities network overall planning; generally, bring forward the theory of site selection strategy within the city limits, combine with the urban growth, adapt to the urban overall planning, give a comprehensive consideration of the relationship between the city, scientific location optimization; microcosmically, brings forward the theory of general planning optimization strategy: not only the proper arrangement of each monomer function, the reasonable organization of the transportation streamline, but also the correspondence in the ground and nature and ecology, culture environments and urban space morphology should be paid attention to; which make the sports centers layout have unique characteristics, yea enter into the city and environment, develop together in harmony. In the end, take the engineering practice of Huainan Olympic Sports Center as an example. An analysis on the site selection and general layout in the general planning is made out.
