| We are lack of water resource seriously in our nation. With the development of social economy, the difference between water supply and consumption, is becoming more and more large. Especially in city, the water shortage is a hot problem. The water loss in distribution is not only the loss of precise water resource, but also increase the investment of infrastructure and cost of water treatment. So, the study of water loss and water loss control, can save the water resource and reduce the cost of water supply. This pragmatic work has both benefits in society and economy. In this paper, we analyzed the reasons of water loss, the forecasting of water loss probability and the method of water loss control. I think it is useful to improve our management.From the reasons analysis in water loss, we discuss some possible solution involved. According to the statistics of maintaining records ( DN100~200, grey iron and steel pipe), we built a forecasting model in water loss probability. Then, we have taken active leakage detection in western Kunming. We collected some data in pilot areas and built a regression equation. And in the regression equation, we discussed the relationship between water loss volume and water pressure. We propose to control the water pressure in western Kunming. In water loss control, we divided pipes into many types according to age, pipe material and pipe diameter. Different type of pipe, has different working result in expectancy. The benefit or saving is our aim in water loss control. To build the cost model of water loss control, it will provide the cost-calculation method to water-supply Company. In this paper, we compared the water loss, maintaining cost and pipe replacing cost. At last, we also built the model of pipe replacing. All of works, will support the water loss control in technology.The purpose of this paper, is to provide some opinions and propositions and support the water-supply company in technology and pragmatic tools.
