Medical X-Ray machine is one of the most advanced equipments in medicine treatment and scientific research. The image processing and control unit in it is responsible for processing and analyzing the X-ray image to meet the need of clinic diagnosis. X-ray image is one of the most widely used medical images in medical technology, so getting accurate information from X-ray image is the key technology to improve the level of clinic diagnosis.Stratix II devices are the industry's leading high-performance, high-density FPGAs. Built on a new innovative logic structure to maximize performance and minimize power, Stratix II devices include up to 96 DSP blocks offering 384 18-bit *18-bit multipliers that operate up to 450MHz. Nios II processor delivers the perfect fit every time with fully customizable features and performance, low product and implementation costs, ease of use and adaptability.An image processing and control unit based on FPGA and Nios II processor is designed in the thesis. In allusion to the characterization of the X-ray image, 8 arithmetics including Circular Blanking, Shading Correction, Recursive Filter, Gamma Correction and Edge Enhancement, AGC, Histogram Equalization and Black/Write Conversion are proposed and well realized by VHDL hardware description language in image processing module. The simulation results show that the module can work well. And the way to build the hardware of the system control module in SOPC Builder is introduced detailedly. The module inludes Nios II CPU, DDR SDRAM controller, CAN controller, PIO and other peripherals. The software of the module is realized in C language. The read and write control of external DDR SDRAM is correctly realizedAfter simulation and debugging, the image processing and control unit based on FPGA and Nios II in the paper can meet the need of medical X-ray image processing, and it has good flexibility and extendability as well.
