The Research Of Waterfront Renewal Design In Ancient Sushou City Under The Guidance Of Humanism Idea

Ancient Suzhou city is the first kind of city which had been thoughtfully planed in the history of China, the waterfront of ancient city is one of the most prosperous areas in Suzhou, where the spirit of the city is congregated. With the social and economical development, the renewal and reconstruction of the waterfront in ancient city has become the focus of Suzhou's construction. However, some of the renewal designs not only lead to damages on the historic and cultural environment of the ancient city, but also bring new problems to society and economy. Therefore, how to preserve the history and culture tradition of the ancient city while creating a new image of the waterfront becomes an urgent issue.This dissertation leads the humanism idea to the waterfront renewal design. Based on the analysis of humanism ideas and rules, the author try to explore the system frame of humanism approaches in the waterfront renewal design of ancient Suzhou city.The dissertation is divided into five chapters. Introduction expounds the reason for the topic-choosing, researching meaning, definition of the basic conceptions and main researching contents. The second chapter analyzes the structure characters from river system constitute, relationship between river and street, river networks characters and appearance features, and then points out the extant problems of the waterfront in ancient Suzhou city on the foundation of generalizing renewal construction's characters. The third chapter proposes that the stance of humanism is the most suitable for the renewal of the the waterfront in ancient Suzhou city, based on the analysis of the three stances of renewal design: functionalism, structuralism and formalism. The fourth chapter interprets the concept of human culture through analysis of relevant ideas and rules, and explores the structure system of humanism approaches in the waterfront renewal design. The fifth chapter put forward four principles of the waterfront renewal design such as organic"growth", molding"environment", creating"place"and be concerned with"person", and discuss the countermeasure of renewal design from the following five aspects: the space structure, the roads and transportation, the ecological environment, the historical places and urban lives.After summarizing the dissertation, the epilogue concludes with an emphasis that the waterfront renewal design in ancient Suzhou city should take an approach that fits in the local historic and cultural background.
