A Study On Qaincheng Historic City Of Hongjiang City In Hunan

The study is a part of a cooperative project of Wuhan University of Technology and Kanagawa University of Japan: "China-Japan's Cooperative Study on the Historic City and Town in the Central Region of Yangtze River", which is a case of the study on the historic cities and towns in Hunan province.The Qiancheng with a long history is situated at the junction of Hunan province and Guizhou province. The Han , Dong , Miao, Yao and other nationalities live in Qiangcheng which has a variety of architecture . Based on the history over 2000 years, rich regional culture, distinct feature of space shape and the traditional building, Qiancheng is named as "the military town in the upper reaches of south of Chu "; "the culture town in the west of Hunan"; "the trade center in Xiangqian region".This thesis contains eight chapters. Chapter one is an introduction, which presents the reasons for taking Qiancheng as my research object, the contents and range of my research, the research methods, and the research frame of the thesis.Chapter two interduced the basic profiles of Qiancheng, including the location concept and evlution of the Hongjiang City and the natural environment, cultural and military events of Qiancheng.Chapter three to chapter seven is the main body of the thesis. It is divided into five parts. The first part of the main body is Chapter three, which gives a comprehensive analysis of the location and the historical evolution. By researching of the natural environment of the Qiancheng, it analyses the idea of the location of and favorable and unfavorable conditions.This thesis analyses the form factor and development of Qiancheng and the historical evolution. Chapter four explores the military defense space structure . It includes the space structrure of "one ring, two axes , two centres", the boundary with wall and river, defense system elements and characteristics of the layout. At the same time, it analyses the internal factors which formate the material forms. Chapter five gives a comprehensive analysis of the street space. The streets are like bone of the city, and the character of sharp, the structure of the streets space, the nodes, the function of streets, the interfaces, the elements of the sight, the dimension and theliving of the streets should be the reflection of the character of this historic city. They are correlative with the development of Qiancheng. Chapter six gives a comprehensive analysis of the type and technique of construction in Qianchen. It sums up the characteristics of the Xiangqian construction .The fifth part of the main body is Chapter Severn, by analysing the status of qiancheng, it puts forward some exploratory recommendations about the protection and development of town against the contradiction of the two.Chapter eight includes the summary of Qiancheng and the inspiration of modern urban planning and architectural design.In a word, the paper analyzed the initiation and the development, streets space and the traditional features of architecture of this historic town at the standpoint of geography, history, urban planning, architecture and cultural heritage protection, which in order to find the value of the Qiancheng.
