In a bridge's service life, there are many causes making damages to it, such as undergoing heavy load frequently, sometimes overload, natural disasters and traffic accidents. As time goes by, the kinds and parts of damage cumulate to a severe extent. In order to ensure the secure service and prolong the service life, the appraisement and assessment of bridge status is necessary. The appraisement is to observe, investigate and check-up the whole structure system and its component, sometimes with correlative experiments, as to make an assessment of damage status, load capability, functional situation, and give some advises on repairing and reinforcement. In this paper, a specific bridge reinforcement program is mentioned, engineering background is well considered, inspection on spot and finite element analysis (FEA) are utilized to assess the real load capacity of the bridge, at last, based on owner's requirement and differences of each reinforcement technology, a reinforcement plan for the bridge is proposed. After reinforcement, FEA method and static load test are carried out to assess the load capability of the reinforced bridge and make judgment of how effectively the reinforcement is working on the bridge. The program mentioned in this article is especially successful, some of popular reinforcement technology is used together and improved based on their advantages and weakness. Not only the life span of the bridge is prolonged, but also the load capability is increased, which will help the owner make great progress on the development of business. Compared with rebuilding, reinforcement is finance, power and time saving. The success of this program gives great witness of repairing and reinforcement technology nowadays.
