A Study On The Reuse Of Old Buildings On The Urban Waterfronts

With the change of the cities industry structure, the cities are faced with extensive rebuilding and renovation. As the source place of the cities, the waterfronts of cities have a lot of abandoned and unused old buildings which are confronted with backout. It not only makes the wastes of the resources and energy sources, restricts the orderly development of the cities, but also induces the cities lost their waterfronts'characteristics by the"big backout and big constructing"mode. This paper concentrates on how to recycle the intrinsic old buildings and their exterior space on the urban waterfronts which are special to the cities in reason so that it can make the old buildings which have the historical values reborn. And the urban waterfront space will be revival .Finally the urban waterfronts can be the new style of the city spaces which exhibit city's character and satisfy their compositive development.Dates from the 1920s to now, the Occident have carried through many succeeded examples at the exploitation practices of the old urban waterfronts. It also forms the systemic recycle theory by these practices. Comparing with it, this study of our country is still in the trying and exploring stage. Firstly, the paper defines the object and the bound of the study and researches according as the researches of the old building recycle idea. The main attention is on the urban waterfront spaces which once were thrived and prosperous but now faced downfall with the development of cities and the revolution of the society. After making some basal explains of the concepts, the paper tells us that the development trends of urban waterfronts and the basic theory ,the value, the type mode and the strategy of the old buildings on waterfronts. It relies on the water condition and concentrates on the reconstructing of the exterior figure and environment space of old building at urban waterfronts. It is concluded the character of the old buildings and their exterior space reconstructing and recycle of urban waterfronts by the analyses of abundance examples. Finally, the paper advances the problems and countermeasures in the process of the rebuild of old buildings at cities'shores by combining with the recycle status of old buildings in the urban waterfronts of our country. Then it finds out the problems which we have been faced with now during the process of the rebuilding practices of the urban waterfronts in our country and the paper advances some homologous countermeasure that we should adopt.
