How to design a reliable electric energy meter which can be used to measure energy is the hotspot which is studied by the energy measurement industry. At first, the reliability prediction and analysis of the multi-user electric energy meter which is been designing by a certain electrical plant in Chongqing is in-depth studied. We get the multi-user electric energy meter's mean time between failures (MTTF) and the effect of all kinds of electric components on the electric energy meter. Secondly the reliability design of the electric energy meter is made by reliability methods of resonably screening the component, redundancy design to improve the electric energy meter's reliability.MTTF which is got by reliability prediction is only the electric energy meter's inherent MTTF. In the prototyping phase the actual MTTF is only 30% of the theoretical MTTF, because there are a lot of potential product defects. Potential product defects can be quickly exposed by using reliability enhancement test. After the reliability analysis of the multi-user electric energy meter it is that the solder joints have the most obvious effect on the electric energy meter's reliability. In the thesis the finite element modle of the solder joint is built by applying the finite element analysis software ANSYS; the unified viscoplastic Anand constitive model is applied to represent the nolinear deformation behavior of 63Sn40Pb solder; the prediction of fatigue life bases on Coffin-Manson modified formula; the effect of temperature cycling stress profile on the thermal fatigue life and stress-strain of solder joints of surface mounting technology (SMT) with pins is studied; the relationship between parameters of temperature cycling stress profile and highly RET is discussed; the temperature cycling stress profile for RET is optiminated. Using the optimized temperature cycling stress profile RET can save time about 40%.The result is proved by the multi-user electric energy meter's RET.
