Research On The Influence Of Permeable Street Pattern To The Vitality Of City Community

The thesis expand the spatial study to the street, a public place which constructed and defined by the architecture, as a essential factor that determined the success or failure of urban community. The author takes the streets of one of the oldest traditional urban community of Hankow----Hualou Street as research object, through some effective methods such as literature reading, field study, graphic drawing to study the permeable characteristic of its street form and the impact to the community vigor.The research was divided into two parts. The first part was the investigation of streets of Hualoujie region , through the insert point of permeable characteristic to display how the permeable street form the natural context of traditional urban community and become the source of vigor of outside public place, and to prove the significance of community street life for local people. The second part was the analysis of the traditional urban community and contemporary closed residential community: (1) under the background of speedily development of city, the traditional permeable street had to face the transform and relative institutional guarantee. (2)summarizing the existing problems of contemporary closed residential community.( 3)the paper discussed the possible approaches of future city community.In the movement of old city reform, Hualoujie could not escape the destiny of pull down old houses and move away, a region of one hundred years will vanish from Wuhan map, the paper described the permeable street form, to display the full of vigor aspect of Hualoujie which unknown by the citizen; at the same time to leave some warm memory to Wuhan people.Cause the complex and particular urban environment of Hualoujie, this paper is just a primary study, it has some disadvantage. The author hopes the research achievement could pave the way for further study, to present some constructive advices to city community design.
