The Vigor Construction Of City Street

City public space design is an important part of urban design. City public space is playing a key role to promote the image and quality of a city. As an important public space and life-arena, the city street design can determine the quality of city public space. The thesis analyzes the questions that city streets exist at present. Combined with the theories and practical achievements in foreign in this realm,the author probes into what good street space is and the diverse characteristics of city street function. Then the author proposes some countermeasures for building public place spirit and street space which creates vigor.First chapter is prolegomenon.Second chapter mainly discuss the origin and definition of street and differences of traditional streets between East and West. Then the author gives further analysis on the questions which modern city streets exist which occurred by the modernism theory instruction and points out that city streets need vigor .The main content of the Third chapter can be divided into three parts: (I) The differences between street and road and types of city streets. According to its own function and the role which it plays in the city, city streets can be divided into three types: the streets for city transportation, the city life streets and other street space. (II) Street relations with the city including the function relationship , the city image relationship and the civic culture relationship. (III)At last the author discusses the contradiction between urban construction and street construction under the urban development.The main content of the Fourth chapter can be divided into two aspects: The first is street vigor. The reason why city streets can create vigor is the rich and diverse people activities in streets. The second is characteristic analysis of city streets which have vigor.The first content of the Fifth chapter is the dialectical relations between environment and human activities .Then the author analyzes two conditions and countermeasures to achieve street vigor with construction of vigorous space and supports for people activities in street. The last content of this chapter is controls of other factors which may affect street design, such as city planning, government decision-making and public participation.
