As the youngest Chinese municipality directly under the Central Government, traffic facilities is playing an important role in national economy developing process of Chongqing. It is significant to keep traffic unimpeded , safe and convenient for economic growth of Chongqing as well as the resident travel. Chongqing is a world-famous mountain city , mountains and rivers distributing with great ease and river system is complicated. All these,especially the multiplicity geology and plentiful of rainfalls climate, highway facilities have beening be damaged or destroyed because of flood or the earth's surface strong rain or sustained rain. Highway flood damage not only destroy the traffic facilities directly but also influence smoothness and safety of traffic transportation and bring about large amount of economic losses ,even personnel casualties. Therefore, on the base of investigating Chongqing's landform , geology and climate characteristic , developing a series of scientific and effective research work about flood damage prevention and treatment actively will play more importent role in ensuring traffic facilities smoothness , intactness and safety. It is significant in decreasing economic losses and social influence bringing about because of flood damage.Flood damage prevention and treatment is a technology difficult problem in a lone time. It is also a ploblem that all engineers must face and need to solve step by step. On the basis of former's studying production, by field survey , theoretical analysis and project apply, the thesis has definituded flood damage's technology characteristic and has held the formation causes , conditions and governing factors of Chongqing flood damage. The thesis also puts forward systematically an appraising method that traffic facilities resist flood damage, project technology countermeasures, design method and construction technology.
