Recently there has been a great progress in society and economy, also in resident's life. Water utility, correspondently, is facing a big challenge; people have a higher requirement for the water demand and the quality of drinking water resources. But some trouble remains such as water shortage, pollution in water resources and water break in incident of water distribution systems, something has been emphasized on water conservation, safety of water supply and decision making in emergency condition. The planning of water supply systems needs to meet very strict demands. This paper studied on the planning of water supply systems in Jiangmen City of Guangdong province. Based on the investigation of current situation of water supply systems, some important problems has been discussed in water demand forecasting, water quantity distribution, water plant location, analysis of water treatment technology, layout of pipe networks, water conservation, water quality monitoring system and safety assessment of water supply engineering. The key works has been done. For example, four methodologies: index of water consumption in each unit of construction land, index of water consumption in each person in the city, relative ratio in various types of water consumer and index of water consumption in various land function historical grows rate in water consumption, are used to forecast water demand in Jiangmen City. The recommend water quality standard, planning in water plants and water distribution systems are also involved in the paper. The integration of water supply engineering in the city area has been considering to make a global planning to speed up the development of infrastructure in water supply engineering.
