Along with the successful utilization of black box on the plane, more and more countries begin to utilize the technology to the vehicles to record data of the traveling state vehicles. Therefore, the black box (vehicle traveling data recorder) has attracted more and more attention under the circumstances of traffic flourishing. The shooting and recording function not only assists in saving the important information for drivers, but also offers abundant evidence and convinience for accident handling.In this design, the system is mainly carried on to collect, compress and store the video image data real-timely under different vehicle speed and conditions, finally coming to the function of real-time video image data storage. In addition, the system can assist the reappearance of the video and other important information around the period of accident occurrence to help deal with the accidents. The video recorded by the system and the other records from the sound matching system are much more reliable and convincing than the records of the traditional black box. It is more suitable to be applied to the fast manipulation of light accidents.In order to realize the functions mentioned above, this thesis will analyze the advantages and disadvantages of the black box of vehicle with frequency evidence collection system and then reviews the contemporary development of the black box of vehicles. In this thesis, ARM2410 and an embedded operation system Linux are adopted. In picture collecting modules, the author uses the Video for Linux interface of Linux to drive the camera to meet the need basically. In picture empress modules, the author makes use of MPEG-4 standard image impression technology to realize the image compression and decompression, thus obtained the higher image compression ratio.
