In the information high speed development age,the video monitoring system inv olves the field more and more,and widely used in wisdom city construction,intellige nt transportation,medical treatment and campus security monitoring,etc.As an impor tant branch of monitoring industry,embedded video surveillance system plays an imp ortant role and has a good application prospect.In recent years,with the rapid development of power industry and the expansion of power grid,power video surveillance plays an important role in the power manage ment industry.Using video surveillance system in substation is an important means to realize visual management of power grid,and is also an important support for monito ring the normal operation of power equipment.Substation equipment of indoor and ou tdoor always in the operation state for a long time,through the function of "four remot e" system,namely remote control / remote telemetry / remote,unmanned monitoring equipment,but the running environment of substation site changes can't be timely fee dback in this way,how to better use in the video monitoring system in unattended sub station that is very important for the safety management of substation.The paper focuses on the embedded technology(SOPC technology)is applied in video monitoring system,make full use of its hardware circuit high-speed computing power characteristics,improve the ability of image acquisition,demonstrate the actual conditions of the substation site environment,use of remote video transmission functi on and image compression processing,meet the needs of unmanned monitoring.Impr ove the integration and stability of video surveillance system,thereby reducing mainte nance cost and ensuring safe and stable operation of equipment in substation.Firstly,this paper introduces the present situation of video surveillance system an d the background and significance of the research,and describes the advantages of em bedded technology in video surveillance system.Based on the requirement analysis of image acquisition,image compression and image transmission in video surveillance s ystem,a SOPC hardware system is constructed.Through the design of the image acquisition module,the image buffer module and the image compression module,the vide o surveillance function is realized.At the same time,this paper optimizes the discrete cosine transform(2D-DCT)in JPEG image compression algorithm,which is used to i mprove the image compression ratio and image transmission speed.Finally,after the design of each function module,carry out the simulation test,and the results show tha t the system has the functions of image acquisition,compression and fast transmission of video images.
