In recent years, with the development of computer industry and computational fluid dynamics (CFD), it becomes possible to use CFD technology to simulate and predict air distribution and thermal comfort condition in a lofty building in order to make an optimal design system. With the aid of the professional software Airpak 2.1 developed by Fluent Co., a thermal comfort and air distribution of air-condition system in Wuhan Hongshan Gymnasium Hall was simulated and studied to make an instructive proposal to the practical air-condition improvement design.First, two methods including model experimentation and mathematical model to predict the air distribution in a large space building such as gymnasium were intro- duced. And then, elaborate introduction of numeral principle and arithmetic to CFD was presented through a mathematic aspect. Based on that, the feasibility of simulating a air-condition system in a large space building was confirmed. In the following chapters, simulation research and evaluating analysis about the reconstruction design was exhibited. With the result of the simulation the design proposal was improved. The detail about this paper includes:1. First the main design parameters and primary design proposal of the air-condition system for the gymnasium were introduced. Based on the simulation research on the inner environment in summer by simulative method, the air distribution and thermal comfort condition in the gym in summer was analyzed under the primary design proposal. The result is expected to supply a practical reference to the later air-condition system design and rebuilding for a large space building,2. A layered air-condition design proposal was raised based on the analysis to the design for the gym. The operation condition in summer was studied through the CFD simulation. At the end, the above two design proposals would be compared together. As the studied target was a reconstruction project, the execution of the design was restricted by the existed building structure and limited investment of desire-party. The final confirmed design may not satisfy the best air distribution and thermal comfort condition, but it can be a very good reference to the future newly-building project.
