Following with the development of economy, every city isbuilding in a large scale, and tending to make the buildings in a sameimage and gaseity. This kind of change, in the certain time and in thecertain situation, is adapted to the demand of the urban economydevelopment. But simultaneously this kind of blind "modernization"in city planning and designing has neglected spiritual demand ofpeople longing for communication and pay little attention to thedifference of regional culture. All these limitations has making thecity memory lost, doing the city culture destroyed and getting theemotional exchange more distant. So Under this background, it isextremely essential and significantly profound for us to pay moreattention to the emotional demand of people, to rethink and evaluatethe development of our urban construction, in particular theconstruction of city public space, to hunt for more theoretic ideas andmethodological systems which are more adapted to our socialdevelopment. In city design, the most emphasized key is the design ofpublic contact space. Humanizing must be always the instructionalstandard of subject research in our design of city public contact space.But in a modern city and under social background, in order to buildthe city individuation and continue the city regional culture, which arethe final destination of this research, we must explore the strongpointand the significance of regeneration of the traditional public contactspace and the exploration tradition public contact space.This subject research will define with emphasis in followingthree aspects: firstly, the inter relationship in traditional city publicspace and the research of regional social structure, the organizationsystem, the social communication activity and the culturalpsychological characteristic. Secondly, the research of modern socialpeople and their activity and spatial structure characteristics. Thirdly,the regeneration and reconstruction of traditional city contact space under modern social background.Through the research and comparison of Chinese traditional citycontact space and historical development and the present situation ofthe western city contact space, taking Chinese traditional citycourtyard, street, courtyard and so on as the main research objects, wethink restoration, distribution, contrast and transformation will causeour traditional contact space regenerated and reconstructed. At thesame time, we study and analysis the type and function of thetraditional city contact space in WuXi,NingBo area. Through theanalysis of the designing methods and significance of modern citytraditional public space, We prove the possibility of regenerating andreconstructing the traditional city contact space.
