Virtual Instrument is a great new production what is based on computer hardware and software in addition bus technology inosculating with measuring and instrumentation technology. With the rapid development of computer science and Internet technology, the VI standard founded on open modular criterion is becoming more and more consummate, various advanced instruments based on VI will emerge endlessly, and the price will be much cheaper.It is a trend that using Virtual Instrument to studying, designing and testing.The electric power quality parameters test is the important foundation of assessing power quality. It is the precondition of quality, safety, economy also. Traditional power parameters monitoring system mainly based on hardware is bulky and crude, it has long adjusting period and high cost, and any change and update must change the hardware and the structure of the system, so it is unsuitable for modern instrument technology.In accordance with the present situation and insufficiency of traditional power parameters monitoring system, this paper develops an original electric power parameters automation monitoring system based on Virtual Instruments techniques. The hardware mainly adopts the data acquisition card produced by National Instruments Corporation. By the use of LabVIEW software platform, the virtual instrument monitoring system can monitor data immediately, conveniently and accurately, achieves "The software is the instruments".This paper expounds the elements and working principles of the electric power parameter automation monitoring system, determines the totality scheme of system, introduces LabVIEW software platform, accomplishes the feasibility and theory analyze, completes the program design and points out the method of VI resolving scheme emphatically. At the same time, it gives display results of monitoring system. It is the development trend of future instrument system by the use of software to bring about the hardware function, so it is the study emphasis of this paper also. The concluding remarks discusses the prospects of the electric power parameters monitoring system and summaries the deficiencies in the actually operating, it puts forward the possibly improvement of the system, too.
