During the process of ship design, a lot of technological documents and data willcome out. Ii is quite necessary that the designers' mutual cooperation should insurethe data's validity and coherence. Parallel and cooperative environment could treatwith data access and organization, edition control, configuration management andmaintainability of association relation of the product data and concerned documents.Therefore, it's quite necessary to effectively manage and organize product data andtechnology docunments. Consequently, designers could fleetly and duly acquire rightassignment information of model ship design, which is taken as the basis of theassignment. In succession, the complete project could be committed in good time,providing participants with share information. PDM system is such a solver for aboveneeds. It closely combines ship design, project and manufacture with Internettechnology, which forms a Internet platform for coordinated design, manufacture andmanagement and reduces reducing development cost and lead time.In order to improve the designing ability of the enterprise, the management ofdesign process is also quite important besides the unceasing technical innovation. Thesignificance is very great of the advanced designing process management system'sestablishment. It is not only assuredly intensify the link oftaches and heighten designefficiency, but also and reduce the design cycle.In allusion to the requiremets of ship designing process management, a advancedinstance is constructed in the paper by the modeling, designing and functioning of theship designing process. Above all, the research background and the current situationat home and abroad are proposed, as well as the significance of the paper. Insuccession, the technology basis and the academic basis are introduced: the Windchillsystem based on Java are taken as developing platform and workflow technology istaken as modeling tools for the ship design process.The key point of the paper is that the ship design process is abstractivelymodeled and the ship lifecycle is defined by the lifecycle manager and workflow editor of Windchill, which is availably integrated with the workflow of the designprocess. In the paper, the pivotal modeling technology and customization technologyare discussed in detail and a small part of the total design process is taken as aninstance. The auditing and authorization flow of the design documents can normallyoperate by customization system and design documents can operate by the process of"edit-proofread—auditing—check-recognize". Short cycle of the auditing andauthorization flow by the system is obvious. Thereout, the control of ship designprocess has a significant meaning for shortening ship design cycle.At last, the content above is summarized and the following work is also proposed.
