Claw pole machine with permanent magnet outer rotor (PMCPM) is a novel structure machine in recent years. The PMCPM is concerned intensively, due to its high torque density and power density, simple structure, low manufacturing cost and so on. The PMCPM has novel structure, operation theory, performance analysis, which has a significant difference compared with traditional electrical machine and claw pole is made of special material. It is lack of relevant research at present in China. However, there exist some problems to be solved. The research of this paper is carried out around the analysis and design method of PMCPM generator, four parts are included as following:First of all, based on basic electromagnetic relationship and the main magnetic flux and leakage flux distribution rule of PMCPM, its magnetic equivalent circuit model and circuit model is built. It is comprehensively introduced that the properties of soft magnetic composite material, which is easy to manufacture and low eddy current loss. The computing formula for key reluctance of magnetic circuit is deduced.Secondly, magnetic field of the whole model of PMCPM is analyzed and calculated by MAXWELL. By using periodic symmetric boundary condition, the analysis model in this paper is reduced to one pole-pair model, therefore, the time of solution decreases greatly. On the basic of the analytical results, the static and transient magnetic field of PMCPM is investigated. Some parameters of PMCPM are obtained, including the back electromotive force and the airgap flux density waveform and so on. The voltage waveform distortion factor is calculated by using Fourier analysis.Then, using three dimensional finite element method, the leakage coefficient of PMCPM is computed in terms of different parameters. The relationship between the leakage coefficient and different parameters is summarized. The conclusions obtained have certain referential value to investigate, analyze and optimize this machine. Finally, on the basis of the magnetic equivalent circuit model and circuit model of PMCPM, the simulation software for electromagnetic design of PMCPM is compiled. The operating characteristics of PMCPM have been investigated. It is compared with the results from the circuit analysis and finite element method, the corresponding simulation results verifies the feasibility of electromagnetic design program. The research results make a good foundation for further study and making prototype.
