With the development of large power and high torque electricity transfer technology, such as electric cars, maglev train, and electric impel marine, motors, which is high torque density, and direct drive, are demanded intensively. The torque density of the traditional motors is limited by the coupling magnet-electric effect of teeth and slots. However, The Claw pole machine is concerned intensively, due to its high torque density and power density, simple structure, low manufacturing cost, can save primary material and energy and so on. The permanent magnet outer rotor Claw-pole machine (PMCPM) has novel structure, operation theory, performance analysis, which has a significant difference compared with traditional electrical machine and claw pole is made of special material. It is lack of relevant research at present in China. However, there exist some problems to be solved.The object of this subject is to optimum design a PMCPM. The paper research the structure and design the PMCPM to bring the advantage of high torque density and high power density into full play, and analyze and calculate the magnetic field of the PMCPM. Based on the above analysis a prototype is made to testify the theory achievement trying to get better performance and technique target.The characteristics and working theory are introduced in this paper and many structures of PMCPM are presented according to different kinds of sorting methods. Owing to its special structure, this kind motor can't adopt the traditional method. So in this paper model of the sample motor is set up in use of ANSOFT and its magnetic field is analyzed with 3D finite element method. Based on the magnetic field calculation, the paper programs a electromagnetism design and calculation software, with integrating the PSPM parameters calculation method with the result of 3D magnetic field to design the PMCPM. In addition, the paper use the Taguchi Method to optimum design and analyzes the leakage coefficient and efficiency of PMCPM is computed in terms of different parameters. The relationship between the leakage coefficient and efficiency with different parameters is summarized. The conclusions obtained have certain referential value to investigate, analyze and optimize this machine. Finally, one 1.5kW prototype is manufactured, which establishes the foundation for making sample motors with better performances.
