In traditional Chinese architecture, particular attention is paid to the design of each level of entrance in sequence. In the royal palace and imperial garden, as well as the civil residential buildings, entrance plays an important role in not only defining boundaries in between each space but also provides a way of connecting building groups with a concept of"order". Designing an entrance should follow all of the aesthetic principles of consciousness, such as the sense of vision, hearing, touch, smell, and rational analysis. This paper illuminates Chinese classic building principles with modern western aesthetic principles; the palace, garden building with traditional civil residential building of Beijing; the techniques of building Chinese classical gardens and modern design principles on entrance. Thus, modern aesthetic theories will replenish Chinese classical building appreciation philosophy and experience; the principle of building entrance design of the palace building and garden building will contrast with that of civil residence entrance environment; practical and concrete process of constructing entrance symbol will make a material annotation on Chinese classic appreciation which emphasizes artistic conception.
