This paper analyses the entrances of Chinese traditional architecture in their functions, forms and expressions of cultural meanings as well: it carries out some analyses of their types and space separately in different aspects concerning its superficial features, inner structures and eventually its spiritual implications; with this the paper it summarizes some designing principles; also it deals with a few successful cases following these principles in modern architecture.The paper is divided into five chapters. It makes clear the concepts of construction entrance and classify the entrance of our traditional architecture on the basis of the spatial level structure theory; the basic concepts and functions can be found in chapter 2; the in depth structure of the architectural entrance is researched into from the aspects of the entrance construction and space in chapter 3 and 4; the 5th chapter deals with the designing principles of traditional Chinese entrances and their applications and development in contemporary architecture. The paper places great emphases on the analyses and comprehension of the entrance spatial conditions, and doesn't go into the materials, techniques and the constitution of the vertical surface, etc.Words: 45000, illustrated:111...
