With the rapid development of modern industry, commerce, service industry and theagriculture, the electric power support and consume already popularize through eachcorner of the social production and people living, Social demanded more and more electricpower. In one side, distribution network optimal planning can improve the support abilityand the reliability, reduce the wastage of the distribution, make the people use goodquality electricity with lower price; in the other side, distribution network optimal planningcan save country foundation construction investment and Non-renewable resources, makea greatly economy and social benefits with limited investment. The distribution power flowcalculation is the most basis part in the distribution analysis; it is an important basis toquantitative analysis the rationality, reliability, and economy of the distribution systemprogramming and Operation way. Therefore it is necessary to carry out study ondistribution network optimal planning and power flow calculation. With thorough researched about the Genetic Algorithm, Greed Algorithm, TabuSearch Algorithm, Ant Colony Optimization Algorithm, a new distribution networkoptimal planning method that based on GIS technology is presented in this paper. Thismethod used GIS technology make load visual, Based on the load density of distribution, divided the optimize region to several partial areas, the optimize distribution network isfigured out by using short-circuit and objective function to each partial areas, with thismethod can tans form the complex question as the simple question.By thorough researched on loop-impedance method, Newton-Raphson method andit's improved method, Zbus method, forward/backward sweep method, compared thosemethod by examples, concluded that forward/backward sweep method is more fit for radialdistribution networks than the other methods. The step to predigest calculation distribution network power flow in distributionnetwork optimal planning method that based on GIS is presented. This method is based onthe forward/backward sweep method, simplified the network with the single-phasebilateral equivalent voltage drop model. The standard algorithm procedure and the simplified algorithm are compiled byVisual C++. A IEEE-33 bus is given to validate the software, and performed the power flow calculation in the distribution network planning example which presented in thispaper.
