With the fast development of China’s economy, there has been a growing demand for electricity, which requests greater power supply capability of power system. Distribution network, an important link between the power grid and the user, plays an important role in the power system. Power flow calculation of distribution network is the foundation of the distribution network analysis, an important basis for the distribution network system design and operation mode of the rationality, reliability and economy quantitative analysis. This thesis first describes the characteristics of the distribution network. And then it combined the Newton Ralph method with the Fast Decoupled method in high voltage distribution power flow calculation based on the analysis of the existing algorithm. Compared to the traditional Newton Ralph method and the Fast Decoupled method, the hybrid algorithm method proposed in the thesis is superior in that it needs less iteration and has the high algorithm efficiency. It is an improvement of the traditional Back/Forward Sweep algorithm since it can give a more clear description of the position between the branches and nodes in the network, using the breadth first search strategy based on the new numbering. And it can also greatly reduce the amount of memory and the data access time, and improve the efficiency of the algorithm by a vector representation of node number, which is different from the traditional 3D vector. With a focus on the analysis of the power flow calculation in the planning application, thesis applies the hybrid algorithm method and the improved the Back/Forward Sweep algorithm to distribution network planning. Solutions are thus suggested after an analysis of the network weak link by flow calculation and the program flow and distribution network planning has been proved valid in reducing the blindness and improving the decision-making in network planning.
