Small Old City Reconstruction And Commercial Walking Street Construction

In the process of the advancement of science and technology, the changing of production and life style as well as the rapid development of cities, there exist different increasing problems including the distemperedness of the basic establishment in the old parts of the city, the low rate of the land using, improper overall arrangement and environmental deterioration. To guarantee the persistent development of the city economy, the old parts of the city must be designedly reconstructed because the aging of the city cannot meet the demands of the development of the society. The reconstruction includes redevelopment, repairing and protecting.The reconstruction of the old parts of the city aims at solving different city problems existing in the old parts of the city, making proper use of the city land, improving the environmental quality of the city and strengthening the whole function of the city. The main effects brought by the reconstruction of the old parts of the city are to liquidize remnant land of the city, make commercial industries converged and readjusted, renovate the city, improve the living environment of the citizens as well as the surroundings and adjust the industry distribution of the cityThere are many examples and theories about reconstruction of old cities abroad and home in the thesis. The reconstruction of Paris made by Baron Georges Haussman advocated the reconstruction of the city system and revealed the disadvantages and social problems made by the industrial revolution. Different design patterns about ideal cities were put forward by many designers: Ebenezer Howard's "Garden City", F.L.Wright's "Broadacre City", T.Garnier's "Industrial City", Auturo Soria·Mata's "Zonary City" and Le·Corbusier's "Radiant City". The ideas of the reconstruction of the city also involve some other ones, such as the 19th new city revolution in London, the 20th city, rebuilding in the United States, the mid 20th old city reconstruction in Hongkong, the old city designed construction in Beijing and Professor Wu Liangyong's organic theories of the city reconstruction.This paper briefly reviews the history of old city reconstruction at home and abroad.as well as the developing process of commercial walking street. It analyzes the developing forms and phenomena in different phases and sums up the characteristics and problems in the development of walking street. Taking Wuyi Road in Simao city as an example, this paper indicates the problems existing in the lay of ideational cognition, commercial planning, plan and design and so forth. Then, the paper roundly probes into the city concept in old city reconstruction and some requirements needed in commercial walking street construction including the scientific orientation, commercial planning, perfect mechanism of policy making and logical plan and design of walking street. Despite the fact that the present conditions of the walking street are not ideal, it is hoped that the walking street can be made into complex commercial zone and rich commercial formats by the reconstruction of the surrounding areas. The ultimate aim is to radiate to surrounding counties and municipalities and meanwhile stimulate the commercial and economic development of Simao city.
