With the rapid development of the communication, computer network technology and the increasing demand of the electric market, the automatic meter reading system' research, production implode and experimental application becoming more and more important. At present many automatic meter reading systems are used in our country, such as the vehicle carries wireless correspondence, the low voltage carrier communication, the collector meter reading system, remote wireless reading system and so on, but they all have shortcoming . And the GPRS( general packet radio service) technology which develops from the existing GSM system has the remarkable advantages such as strong real time, broad reading scope, quick transmission speed, low communication cost, big system capacity, and so on. It is adapt to use for data transmission.According to the present situation of our country, this paper introduces the design of GPRS remote wireless automatic reading system based on J2ME. The design uses the ATmegal28 as an ammeter data collection module, the data is transmitted by using TC65 GPRS communication module of Siemens Corporation. The protocol of the data transmission is TCP/IP which can make the low cost, moreover may carry on the remote monitoring, the real-time maintenance, secure data transfer and easy soft ware updates over the air.The paper divides into five parts.In chapter 1, it analysis and study various kinds of technical schemes of domestic and overseas automatic meter reading system. Combined with the concrete conditions of our country, the whole application schemes and principles are put forward.In chapter 2, it describes the principle and features of GPRS, analyzes the functions and relationship of GPRS network cells and interfaces at detail; The chapter parses the relation of connection between the GPRS and Internet networks make clear the data communication mechanism of GPRS. Then introduce the features and structure of J2ME.The chapter 3 describes the scheme of ammeter data collection and transmission. Here more importance will be attached to the ones the data center server accesses the Internet. Since the technologies of port mapping are import and usually used, here determine uses the active IP address for DCS accesses the Internet to communication.The chapter 4 works out the hardware design of TC65 wireless data transmit terminal, including the power supply circuit, turn on and reset circuit, serial port and signal bulb circuit, SIM card drive circuit.The chapter 5 analysis the procedure of GPRS connection, describes how to dial-up by use AT commands, and analysis how to embed TCP/IP datagram into PPP datagram. The TC65 module transmit data by uses the socketconnection, the server computer receives data by uses serversocketconnection. The system controls the software reliability by the more threads of J2ME, via module programming, to assure the execution efficiency.The chapter 6 introduces the configuration of the system soft debug, analysizes the software install/update by OTAP.Finally, we make a practically test and find some shortcomings, so we propose further measures to improve the system, looking forward to be finished in the future.
