So far, the measurement of water to remote rural areas still does not realize householdwater meter reading, and they have long been used the way of multi-family or one villageas a unite sharing one water meter reading. Water supply department’s inspection andmanagement of water meter can only rely on one by one artificial inspection. Becausethese areas location is scattered, on the one hand, it consumes a lot of manpower and thework efficiency is ineffective; On the other hand, it is not conducive for water supplydepartment to regulate the consumption of water use, which is difficult to discover theabnormal situations such as users steal water, pipeline leak and other anomalies. In order toimprove the automatic level of rural water monitoring, this paper has designed a feasiblesystem of long-distance automatic water meter reading in rural areas.According to the general structure of the system, the design of automatic meterreading system in this paper is discussed in three aspects, and then respectively illustratesthe hardware design and software design, and finally the versatile PC monitoring software.Hardware mainly includes three parts, namely, the design of the pulse water meter, thedesign of the collector and the selection of GPRS communication module. Pulse watermeter is made by simple modification on the basis of the ordinary mechanical water meter.Firstly, it elaborates the selection schemes of acquisition sensor, and finally gives thedetailed modification steps. The collector consists of the micro controller chip, periphe raldevice (such as RS-485transceiver module) and related functional circuit (such asacquisition circuit), etc.Software mainly includes three parts, namely, the program design of the collector, thedesign of the communication protocol and the parameters of the GPRS communicationmodule. Communication protocol is designed according to the standard byte format andrequirements of national standard file CJ/T188-2004Technical Requirements of OutdoorMeters Data Transmission, and it illustrates the frame format of related communicationinstruction. Finally it gives the detailed steps of the basic parameters of setting the GPRScommunication module.PC monitoring management software uses Visual Basic programming language, andchooses Microsoft Office Access database to store data. Through analyzing the requirements of the system and the general structure, firstly it illustrates the design ofrelevant table objects in the database, then it introduces the database access technology andhow to use VB to realize serial communication, and finally it designs the work interface foreach module of PC monitoring software, and the relevant code is given.In the laboratory test platform, the system is reliable, the return data is accurate andthe operation is simple, which achieves the scheduled target. This system can provide moreefficient management of water use for water supply department, and has high applicationvalue of practical engineering. Finally, it points out the deficiencies in the existing systemin this paper and the direction of improvement in the future.
