Road traffic is the forthgoer of economy and closely bound up with human subsistence and social development. Its development goes with the progress of politics, military, economy, ology and cultural. On the contrary, it facilitates their evolution in country. It can be said that road traffic is the important illustration of the development of human civilization and social productive forces.In recent years, as the rapid development of the economy and society, expedition of urbanization procession, inflation of urban population in our country, all that is causing outspreading of urban brim, resident suburbanization and so forth. This phenomena lead to leaping of commute demand. It is well known that insufficient of urban traffic infrastructure, ineffective management, laggard technique and scare road space make the contradiction of traffic demand and accommodate more and more prominently.The characteristic of more people and less land, vehicles multi and road few, infrastructure centralism, land for transportation usage strain, activity frequently in city makes the transportation land resource limited. As the economical development, urban traffic demand must to be enlarged.Public transit as mass transportation tool, has the advantage of less average people space occupancy, mass capacity, high efficiency and so on. It is considered the best way to solve the contradiction state above and the problem of traffic jam, resource scare, pollution grievous and so on. Improving the bus operation efficiency, reducing the bus travel time and delay in the signalized intersection, and alleviating the interrupted to the other vehicle is the emphases of this dissertation.Research is supported by the Research Fund for the Doctoral Program of Higher Education (RFDP): research on coordination operation mechanism and method between the hybrid traffic control system and traffic flow guided system with No. 20040183035 and National High-tech Research and Development Program (863 Program): key technologies research and development on new generation of intellectualized traffic control system with No.2006AA11Z228. This research is aim at increasingly anxious traffic condition and the strain of traffic accommodate. The scope of this research is under the background of the"transit priority", and focuses on the planning and implementation of bus signal priority system. The objectives of this dissertation are putting forward a bus signal priority system architecture framework, discussing signal priority strategies, signal priority algorithms and bus detection systems as depth as possible from the view of traffic signal control. So as to provide guarantee for reducing bus delay in signalized intersection and improving bus adhere to schedule and bus service quality and increasing the proportion of bus trip in the standpoint of signal control. It expects to alleviate the increasingly pressure of grisliness urban traffic, attempts to figure a people oriented traffic signal control plan.This dissertation contains a total of seven chapters and two appendices. The structure of dissertation is described as follow:Chapter I, Introduction, introduces the background of the research and point out the research goal and the purport of this dissertation, provides a literature review of the state-of-the-art of the bus signal priority system: history, development and implementation. Finally puts forward the develop prospect of bus signal priority system.Chapter II, provides the bus signal priority system architecture framework, analyses the system's user principal and service principal, conceives the system's logic framework and physics framework, discuss the system's key components.Chapter III, bus detection system focuses on bus operation information and reinforce intersection's traffic conditional information. It acts as trigger for signal control logic optimizing signal plan and selecting priority strategies. This chapter analyses different type of bus detection systems and discusses the pros and cros of different bus detection systems.Chapter IV, classifies bus signal priority strategies into passive priority and active priority based on priority signal forming at the stage of signal plan, and discuss them respectively.Chapter V, as providing signal priority for bus can impact on the other vehicles go through intersection and increases average vehicle delay, in order to provide resultful bus priority signal, meanwhile reduce average vehicle delay of the whole intersection, two new bus signal priority algorithms are put forward: bus signal priority algorithm base on bus frequency and bus signal priority algorithm base on demand intensity.Chapter VI, analyses the factors as intersections space, channel number of the bus routes, traffic volume and bus frequency and the location of bus station effect the implement of the bus signal priority system, and uses microcosmic simulator VISSIM to validate the influence of the factors.Chapter VII, conclusions and recommendations for future research of this dissertation are provides in this chapter.
