A Preliminary Study On Beijing Zoo Design

Beijing Zoo is the first of its kind in China, and one of the biggest zoos in the Asia and the world. Integrating science,knowledge and entertainment into the park, Beijing Zoo is mix of traditional gardens and modern landscape. The objective of it is to find a way to harmonize the city zoo with the process of urbanization across China. By summarizing experiences and lessons in the construction of Beijing zoo, a mode for the zoos is put forward featuring harmonious human being and nature and modern functions.With fast urbanization, the city zoo faces great challenge in preservation and construction. Based on field study and documents available, the research is focused on the history and development of the Beijing zoo, general planning, exhibition design, cage design, interpretation system, public education training in the field of the planning and design of Beijing zoo, proposing principles for designers, investors and administrators. To some extent, it may promote the construction, development and management of the Beijing zoo.
