System coordination between Urban Rail and Bus System consists of institutional, technological and economic coordination. And operation coordination for those two systems is one of the main conmponets for technological coordination. Its application can make passenger travel more continuously and more smoothly, which will enhance the attractiveness of public transport system. In this thesis, static and dynamic coordination models on operation of Urban Rail and Bus System have been proposed from the perspective of operation schedule and real-time dispatching. Based on the literature review about multimodal transit operation coordination of domestic and other countries, principle and methodology on operation coordinatin between Urban Rail and Bus System are analyzed systematically. Limitation of research in this field is also examined. The operation schedule coordination model is established to stipulate the coordinated schedule for Urban Rail and Bus System. The total cost in this proposed model includes transit passengers'time costs and operators'costs, which is minimized. In this study, different types of transit transfer stations and vehicle arrival time randomicity at stations are analyzed. After that, a case study is conducted in this thesis and the Powell algorithm is used to resolve the model. Each part of the total cost under coordinated operation is compared with that of non-coordinated operation. The result reveals that operation schedule coordination can improve the transfer and the total cost of the network is optimized.Based on the integrated schedule that is optimized by the schedule coordination model, transfer-station-based approach on coordination between Urban Rail and Bus Routes under dynamic dispatching is studied, in order to meet the time-varying demand for passengers'transfer and lessen impact from bus running randomicity. The result shows that the transfer efficiency between those two systems has been greatly improved. The result of the study reveals that the operation coordination can effectively reduce passengers'transfer costs as well as total cost of the system and improve the quality of the transit service without great infrastructure investment.
