After the implementation of example projects of vessels'standardization on Grand Canal, it is necessary to understand its' effect according to comparisons of early and present vessels. This thesis first introduced the Grand Canal and the Projects, and then collected data about vessels on Grand Canal in Jiangsu province. The trend and characteristics of large and normative vessels on Grand Canal was analyzed. The dynamic factor and index of the large and normative trend was discussed. The main results in the thesis include the following aspects:(1) The vessels types are barges (tows), self-propelled on the Grand Canal. And the proportion between barges (tows) and self-propelled is basically stable. The main vessels used in the transport of commodities are barges (tows).(2) The large and normative vessels are prominent on Grand Canal in recent years. However, compared with the ultimate navigable barge, the mean tonnage of vessels is still small.(3) Based on the unit cost analysis, it went deep in the economic benefits of ship transportation under market economy. After the tonnage of vessels averaging 300 tons, a special policy or administration measure is needed to push on the vessel's development.(4) The introduced vessel's unit area can be used to describe the trend and its effect on throughputs of inland navigation facilities. And an introduced coefficient can be denoted the standardization degree of vessel's scale.
