AutoCAD, which is widely used in electric power engineering design, is short of the menus and tools to fulfill the customs and special demands of substation design. How to customize AutoCAD with other programs, such as MathCAD, Borland C++ Builder 6.0, is the theme of this paper.In the papers, the author succeeds in customizing AutoCAD with"electric"menu, AutoLISP programs and especial fonts and symbols. Carrying capacity of Tubal Bus and flexibility of suspensory Tubal Bus are calculated and checkouted in MathCAD programs. Furthermore, protection of lightning rod and tensility of flexible lead are intelligent calcutaled and designed in AutoCAD system through ROD program and FORCE calculation program respectively. Author also uses Excel to solve horizontal tensility of connections between tow euippments.All above intelligent programs have been proved to be corrected through 500kV substation ehgineering design. Results and figures came out of the programs are exact and credible, as well as the work efficiency is marked heightened.Moreover, the programs are enough intelligent to satisfied different engineering. So the application of them could standardize and unify the plan.
