The Study Of Reuse Of The Old Building On Concept And Method

The Reuse of the Old building is always a challenging proposition in design. It not only require the architect can discover the history value of the old building, but what is more important is that the architect can give a new life to it. Now the theory about this problem is mostly around the aspects of the history,the social significance or the technology of the design. However, there is comparatively less theory to discuss the architectural concept and method.. So this thesis sets out from this two aspects to discuss the question of how to find the beginning of the design and how to go deep into it.The framework of the paper is to propose the three types of the design concept firstly; Secondly, the thesis discusses how to reserve the factors of cultural sense of the old building; and then comes to the concrete methods corresponding to the former classification, finally the thesis confirms the viewpoint by analysis of the architectural cases in ways of diagram.This thesis is composed of four chapters. Chapter 1 involves rules of the design by dividing the Old building into two types: the architecture based on structure of brick and stones, represented by western architecture, and the architecture based on structure of wood, represented by eastern architecture.。Then comes to propose the theory foundation, composed of development of modern architecture and the stratification thought, to introduce the three types of design concept, that is environment, space and tectonic, and indicate the different condition to use then. Chapter 2 inquires into the question of how to reserve the material factors of the old building, and adopt what kind of principle to restore and reinforce it. Chapter 3 discuss the concrete methods of the design according to the three classification. Chapter 4 analysis the selected cases by ways of diagram and try to illustrate the question step by step.
