An Initial Analysis On The New Center Area Of Small Towns In Jiangnan Area

The development of towns and the social phenomenon it causes constitute one of the most outstanding characteristics in the process of Chinese urbanization and modernization. Serving as the activity center for its residents and the window to the outside world, the town center, which is of the greatest importance among all the constructions of towns, is attracting more and more attention.Jiangnan area, which has always been the dense area of towns since long ago, is developing in a great length with the help of states policy and the encouragement of developing regional economy. In order to solve series of problems in the developments of town, towns in Jiangnan has been devoting abundant manpower and material resources to update and rebuild town centers which is considered to be the image representative of town.It is urgent to solve the series of problems caused by the lack of holistic city design during the process of town construction. City design is the bridge connecting layout design and mono-case design and is the means and technique in coordination buildings and space as well. Presently, more and more importance is attached to city design as a means of improving the space of living and environment quality.This paper briefly clarifies the definition of towns in Jiangnan and its center as well first, then moves its attention to the analysis of the motivations and actual situation for the development of Jiangnan new town center and introduces the ultimate goal of this paper. After integrating traditional spacial characteristics of Jiangnan town and having discussions on the related problems arising from the present Jiangnan new town center construction from the perspective of city design, this paper conducts an actual case analysis on the project of Nanxun Center Town of Huzhou City, which is of personal involvement and won the bid in the end.
