The design for the new ship navigation test system based on GPS is derived from actual requirement of Dalian shipbuilding industry. This system is used in ships' trial voyage and feeds back test results that are important factors for factory and ship-owner to evaluate the ship's performance. For a long time, the factory was using a system designed by a research institute. And the system cannot be satisfied because it was not designed according to the request of the factory. The problems are that the representation of test results is not rich enough, the stability of data collection cannot be ensured, and the interface is not friendly. Under this background, this paper designs the system from data collection to test results representation, which includes drawing voyage chart, GPS serial port communications and user interface.Firstly this paper summarizes the research actuality of the field of the ships' trial voyage test system, then analyzes the user requirement of the system on the base of actual environment, and establishes the prospective goal. Subsequently gives the total solution of the system and implements module design on the base of expounding the request of system design. Test results representation module mainly presents voyage chart on the interface automatically. Firstly, analyzes the projection method from geodetic coordinate to plan coordinate and then select the Gauss-Kruger projection. The section about speed-time chart first analyzes four methods that can work out the speed and then select the one relate to the voyage chart. The section of GPS serial port communications uses the MSComm to implement the data receiving. Analyzes the data format and confirms the data collection and information distilling method by means of using the transitional text. Then realizes this method with technology of multithreading. Finally expounds the design of the user interface and confirms to show the data in both separate and scrolling mode. Analyzes the operation abnormities of the system and works out the method to deal with them.The new ship navigation test system based on GPS has already been used in the actual ships' trial voyage and achieves the intention of the stability of data collection, the fluency of operation and the integrality of the representation of test results.
