The paper researches a new type of the mechanical transmission-the Rolling cone-type toroidal drive. Using the softwares PRO/ENGINEER and ANSYS, the solid model of the drive is set up, and the simulation for the drive is accomplished. The paper mainly concludes the following works:The paper briefly introduces the principle of machining the key part of the drive-the stator, and the process of modeling the drive with the new method -VRM. The effect of mismachining tolerance of the tooth is also discussed in this part.By the functional module of the MECHANICA STRUCTURE of the three-dimensional modeling software PRO/E, the static analysis of the drive is accomplished when the external load is applied to the drive and the displacement and stress distributions are presented. The number of the planet and the cone-apex angle of the planet tooth are the important parameters for the drive, and the influences of these parameters on the static characteristic are discussed.Using the finite element analysis software-ANSYS, the modal analysis of the drive is accomplished , the natural frequency and the modes of the drive are presented. The influences of the drive's parameters on the modal characteristic are also discussed.Based on the modal analysis, using the mode superposition method ,the harmonic analysis is completed. When the drive is excited by the harmonic force, the dynamic displacement response and the dynamic stress response are given. The influences of the drive's parameters on the vibration characteristic are also discussed.
