The paper researches a new type mechanical transmission mechanism-the Rolling cone-type toroidal drive. The meshing efficiency has been studied completely and systematically and the parameters of drive are optimized on the base of analysis about meshing. By taking advantage of computer technology the main parts of the drive-Stator, Planet gear and Worm are modeled and emulated. The motion of the drive is also demonstrated. The paper mainly concludes the following works:The paper introduces the meshing theory of Rolling cone-type toroidal drive and the motional relations of all parts, gives the formula of transmission radio. The relation between tooth numbers and helix angle of every parts is found out, and the assemble relation among all the parts is also given. It can be regard as the theoretical basis to optimize the drive. According to the gear meshing theory, the meshing equations, the contact line equations and tooth profile equations are given. It gives a base for 3D modeling the drive.The meshing efficiency of the drive is studied and analyzed in theory. The different formulas for meshing efficiency of drive are introduced on different conditions when stator or worm is fixed respectively. By a large number of calculations, the factors of influence on meshing efficiency of drive are analyzed. The influence regulations are given.By means of the optimization method-punishing function method and taking the sum of the planet gear radius and center distance as the target function, the parameters of drive are optimized. By using the optimization program, the initial serial studies of drive are completed, The best serial parameter value of the drive is given.On the base of deducing meshing theory, by simplifying the parameters and using software, the 3D model of the Rolling cone-type toroidal drive is given. And the parametric models are realized. The assemble chart of drive is given. And the drive is emulated dynamically.
