The Region Characteristic In The Modern Urban Plaza

Plaza, as a primary element, is one of the most important ways of improving urban public space. With the tide of constructing urban plazas and the tide of globalization, our cities are impacted by western culture intensively, causing region culture difference vanished subtly, and they look like more and more the same, which brings on a serious problems day by day. So, when information passes through the tradition to our days, we ought to consider and recognize the urban region culture from a new angle to create a space which owns a unique and regional character, but not rigidly adhere to some styles.This article begins with the formation and development of urban plazas, analyze the divert characters of western and Chinese urban plazas during a definite period and reasons of these difference, and summarize current urban plazas' characters and problems. Combining with examples of domestic and foreign urban plazas, this article studies on the relations between regional characters and plazas from the recognizing angle, offers designing ways and ideas for regional urban plazas from the technique angle, and several feasible ways of construct urban plazas.
