| With the development of science and computer technology, modern engineering technology is tend to developing on credible, practical, safe, economic and canonical. Under this developing background, it puts forward new requirements on design of the hoisting mechanism of gantry crane. People pay more and more attention to the economic design of the hoisting mechanism of gantry crane based on the safe side. At the same time, the composers depend on experience, test, static state qualitative analysis and handwork more, which lead long design cycle, bad design quality, high design expense, and even feeble products. Therefore, It makes more senses on the efficiency and quality of the hoisting mechanism of gantry crane design by researching on the methods of its optimum design.This paper discussed the application, main form and function of the gantry crane in the engineering and worked out an idea that researching on the hoisting mechanism which is the most important part of the gantry crane and making it more convenience and economic is very necessary.
