Traffic accident has become the first hazard threatening human security of life and properties. China is one of countries where there are the most frequent and serious traffic accidents, so how to solve traffic security problems has been urgent.By analyzing and studying the previous definition of traffic accident prone locations, the paper gives a more scientific and comprehensive new definition and expatiates its connotation to facilitate study and application.The paper analyses some methods which have been used to distinguish the traffic accident prone locations, and discusses their respective applicability. Moreover, a method involved the operating speed, coefficient of accidents rate and times of absolute accidents has been presented, which merit lies in its independence of statistic which is necessary for traditional methods, avoiding the time-effect of past statistical data; and, not only can it find out the traffic accident prone locations based on statistics, but also other potential traffic accident prone locations which statistical data cannot reflect. This method has been successfully applied for detection of traffic accident-prone locations of national-highway 320 between Longhui and Dongkou.While analyzing the cause of traffic accident due to overstating artificial factors and ignoring road conditions when making statistic of traffic accidents, the paper proposes to attach more importance to road conditions, analyze its influence of all aspects, and furthermore, present countermeasures against it.Finally the paper analyses how to prevent and deal with traffic accident-prone locations, and presents in detail how to ameliorate two traffic accident-prone locations of national-highway 320 between Longhui and Dongkou.
