Landscape Design Based On Regional Culture And Genius Loci

Along with the booming development in LA(landscape architecture) in our country, the landscape convergences is more and more serious, many reasons result in current scene, but the primary reason is that the design escaping from culture and genius loci which the site supposed to be contained. The culture grows up in a certain region which is its intrinsic characteristic. So, as a carrier of the region-culture, Landscape architect should regard particular physical geography, weather, humanities and societies as the realistic background, concentrate on embodying the region characteristic by the idiographic region environment. The LA in certain region, appear a certain the atmosphere not only by concrete material such as building, essay, plant…etc. but also its combination forms. This kind of atmosphere is genius loci.Therefore, in order to get back the emotion and meaning which is deserted by the modernism, to avoid the dangerous of the region culture homogeneity from globalization, and to resolve the problem of trait disappearance and landscape convergences, we must base ourselves upon the age, concentrate on the studying particularity of site and create LA place where our mind and body can dwell for rest,and this place also should be identify with our culture and sensibility.Emphasizes that the design must base upon the region culture, should not form a certain style, but create a certain rational thinking and method.
