The bogie is the very important part which affects the running safety of railway vehicles. As the development of railways towards to heavy haul and high speed, the fatigue reliability problem of railway bogies becomes more and more important. In order to ensure the running safety of railway vehicles, higher requirements for the inspections of the key parts such as freight bogie side frame and bolster and their service life limits are needed. Therefore, recently many researchers have paid high attentions in how to accurately predict the fatigue life of the bogie side frames and bolsters.The load spectrum is very important for the evaluation of freight bogie fatigue reliability, and the use of dynamic simulation is an efficient way to obtain the load spectrum for the bogie. The dynamic simulations for C62 and C64k freight cars are undertaken, the dynamic load spectrums for the side frames of bogie Z8A and bogie ZK2 under different conditions are obtained. Then the fatigue problem of the bogie can be studied by using the obtained load spectrum.The finite element analyses for the side frames of bogie Z8A and bogie ZK2 are conducted. The probability fatigue feature of the dangerous points on the key positions of the side frames is studied, and the probability fatigue stress spectrum on the dangerous sections of the side frames corresponding to some typical railway lines are obtained. Finally the fatigue life for the side frames of bogie Z8A and bogie ZK2 is given.
